My family lives in a 100 + yr old home. We rent! Basement wet all the time. I have dehumidifier running 24/7. A few leaks in roof, every time the land load fixes the leaks he sprays the moldy wood with clorox. Next time it rains same thing. Water leaks and everytime the mold spots come back, even after he changes the sheet rock and sprays the clorox. my 1 yr old has had a cough with bad conjestion for 2months. Do you know of a way I can get a free mold test. The landlord wont pay for it and we just cant afford it. Please help! I dont know where to turn.

If it's the black fungus, bleach does not kill it off entirely - it comes back again. (My dishwasher has no drying function, it just washes, so I can use bleach etc OK.)

Following works fine in average size dishwasher -
250 g Caustic Soda (available from Boots etc - in the UK -, as drain cleaner)
Must be solid crystals, not solution, which may contain detergent and will froth up terribly !
*** Hot caustic soda will destroy all protein, which includes ANY fungus, also YOUR SKIN, so observe precautions which are clearly stated on the container !!! ***

500 ml Sainsbury's Thin bleach (don't use thick bleach which will also foam up)
Add to the cold water, add NO detergent (to avoid frothing)
Run a normal cycle, including full rinsing.

After this I found grey marks where the fungus had been, but it did not come back within three weeks (and counting....) - staying nice and clean.

Laws vary state to state - it is best to check with a legal rep from your state.

As a 203k Consultant, we are to make sure the home is healthy, safe and that the utilities have future utility. At the end of the day, it has to be in "move in condition" and without defect. FHA's rules on inspections are not as strict as most would have you believe.
