how do you clean mold and mildew off a basement floor using bleach?

| Basement Mold Cleaning | August 26, 2010

also, can you dilute the bleach, like say, 2 parts javex to ten parts water?

You can´t remove it using bleach , you will be wasting your time with bleach . Although it seems to work , it as only a temporary effect. The mold will recur in a matter of months. Use a proprietary fungicide, depending on how severe, you might need a number of applications. Try and keep your basement well ventilated, or use a dehumidifier every now and then

  1. Open the windows and pour out the bleach on the floor and mop it up.

  2. Make a bleach and water solution, say 1 part bleach to 10-15 parts water. Spray the molded area and mop away! I had mold in my house after Hurricane Katrina and this solution worked for me. I haven’t seen the mold come back. Good luck!

  4. Oh dear…

Well, you’ll want to use a strong solution of bleach to hot water, a good pair of rubber gloves, and some kind of scrubbing brush or even a broom with very strong, stiff bristles. And after you get finished scrubbing, you’ll want to turn fans on the area if you can to help it dry.

I’ve never tried using Javex, so I can’t answer that.

    Good luck!

  7. We’re dealing with this right now with all the heavy rain.. The city sewer backed up into our partially finished basement… Luckily, we didn’t’ have carpet just some area rugs. etc.. However, we did use bleach and water to scrub the floors.. So, far after 2 days things seem fine.. We’re waiting for a professional cleaner to come in and fine tune the cleaning.. However, we used 2 16 qt. buckets and about 2-3 cups of bleach.. We also bought some sponge mops/gloves.. We had a clean bucket of water and bleach/water combo.. If you can have 2 people with mops one will apply the bleach water and the other will mop with a clean water rinse after a min or two.. .Change clean water bucket frequently and use the hottest water possible.. I boiled some water in micro… Also, don’t forget to wash up the walls a good few inches… We bought some industrial fans and a dehumidifier. good luck….
