Everybody wants to get rid of the toxic mold right away. Upon positively detecting mold infestation inside your home, it is highly advised that you resolve to immediate mold remediation as soon as possible. Mold remediation has five levels – with Level 1 having the lowest contamination and Level 5, with highest. In this article mold remediation in levels 1 and 2 will be discussed.

Level 1 is the level of mold remediation suited for infested areas of 10 square feet or less. Small infestations in level 1 can refer to mold infection on surfaces such as baseboards or ceilings. At this level, a do-it-yourself remediation can be done and you can finish off the whole cleanup even in the absence of a mold remediator. You just need to bear in mind precautionary measures for a safe and thorough remediation. Consider these steps:

1. Don’t attempt proceeding with the cleanup if you have allergies, asthma or immune disorders.

2. Wear protection – gloves, disposable respirator or eye protection.

3. Temporarily keep infants away from the infected area. Mold infestation can result to pulmonary hemorrhage among infants so make sure that they are not in the area throughout the cleanup.

4. Infected materials which are impossible to be thoroughly cleaned (sofas, pillows) should be removed from the home immediately.

5. Clean the area and wipe with a damp cloth. Make sure that you let it dry properly to avoid future contamination.

Level 2 refers to the mold remediation process done to treat mold infested areas between 10-30 feet. In doing mold remediation for this level, bear in mind to take the same precautionary measures mentioned earlier. Mold infested materials should be placed in double bags before finally throwing to the garbage. Failing to do so could result to further contamination and recurrence of mold accumulation. When mold removal is done, don’t forget to vacuum the area. Replace the vacuum filters afterwards. Throughout the cleanup, always make sure to use natural cleaning products. Commercial cleaners contain chemicals which could be harmful to our health while green mold killers do not. Natural cleaners are also proven to be effective and usage of such will not only keep its users safe but the environment unharmed as well.
